What is the espabion?
Espabion® is a synthetic medicine indicated to treat some gastrointestinal diseases and their symptoms, with trimebutine as its active principle , a chemical compound with an analgesic and antispasmodic effect , whose function is to regulate the motility of the digestive tract and reduce abdominal pain. What is the espabion used for?
- Espabion® has analgesic and antispasmodic effects , which act through the blockade of acetylcholine muscarinic receptors, mainly in the colon, to reduce abdominal pain due to colic , providing benefits to the digestive health of many patients.
- It is used to treat:
- Irritable bowel syndrome. (3)
- Constipation and diarrhea due to gastroenteritis. (4)
- gastritis . (5)
- The slow transit of food through the digestive tract.
Dosage and routes of administration of espabion
The commercial presentations of espabion® are in 200 mg tablets , in 100 ml/5 mg suspension and in drops in a 30 ml bottle . The administration is oral and the usual dose as an informative reference can be the following:
- Adults and adolescents: 1 tablet 15 minutes before eating orally with some liquid.
- Older adults: 10 ml of suspension 3 times a day, the same 15 minutes before each meal.
espabion side effects
The use of espabion® can cause some of the following adverse effects in certain patients:
- Allergic reactions due to contact with any of the components of espabion®.
- Dry mouth, nausea and vomiting .
- Diarrhea and epigastric pain .
- In women, menstrual disorders, inflammation and breast pain may appear.
- Disorders in the central nervous system such as headaches, dizziness or drowsiness.
Important : If any of these symptoms or any not described in this list appear while taking espabion®, stop using it and consult your doctor.
Contraindications and warnings of espabion
The use of espabion® is contraindicated in the following cases:
- In patients with hypersensitivity to some of the components of the drug.
- Should not be administered during pregnancy.
- Do not start a treatment with this drug in the infant without medical supervision or during the lactation period .
You should know: Before starting treatment with espabion®, review your medical history with your doctor.
Avoid if you have:
- Intestinal obstruction or duodenal ulcers .
- Breast cancer treated with chemotherapy.
- Some kind of bleeding in the digestive tract.
Warnings:

- To improve the effects of espabion® follow the following recommendations:
- Do not eat food in a rush.
- Avoid hot foods.
- Avoid drinks with high sugar content.
- Avoid the cigarette .
- Do not consume alcoholic beverages while you are being treated with espabion®.
- In case of pregnancy and lactation it should be administered under medical prescription.
- Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
