What is isosorbide?
Isosorbide is a type of generic drug, but alsoan active substance converted into nitrate oxide, whose mechanism of action is to serve as a vasodilator of extended-release smooth muscles.
Isosorbide comes commonly as tablets or sublingual tablets of approximately 10 mg to 20 mg, depending on the medications in which it is distributed. The appropriate dose of isosorbide is one tablet or capsule of 10 mg every 2 hours or every 3 hours.
Note: A medical study mentions the present information: “The dilation of the veins thanks to isosorbide dinitrate promotes blood capacity and decreases venous return to the heart, reducing the final diastolic pressure of the left ventricle and the wedge pressure (preload) of the pulmonary capillaries”. (1)
What is isosorbide for?
The drug isosorbide is responsible forrelieving vascular smooth muscles, that is, the blood vessels through which blood circulates, in addition to being avasodilator of the arteries (where blood circulates from the heart) and peripheral arteries (in the areas of the arms).
To highlight: Vasodilation may be essential for angina (chest pain due to lackof blood flow), ischemic heart disease (cause of angina due to blockages of the coronary arteries) and heart failure (lack of cardiac pumping).
