What is seltaferon?

Seltaferon® is the name of a patented medical product whose active ingredient is called oseltamivir , which has the main characteristic of being a very powerful antiviral for the treatment of influenza (both in adults and in children and adolescents), which even It was studied in depth to determine its use for Covid-19 . (1)

What is seltaferon used for?

  • Seltaferon® contains the substance oseltamivir (similar to zanamivir), which is part of the group of inhibitors of the enzyme neuraminidase (a protein that facilitates the infection of the influenza virus), so that infectious particles are not released influenza A and B (types of influenza or flu viruses). (3)
  • It is used to treat:
    • Influenza virus.
    • Influenza A prophylaxis.
    • Influenza B prophylaxis.

Dosage and routes of administration of seltaferon

Seltaferon® is distributed in a box presentation with 75 mg oseltamivir phosphate capsules, with an oral administration route . Another form is in suspension of 60 ml of oseltamivir. The doses of treatment with seltaferon® in the form of capsules are as follows:

  • Adults and adolescents: It is recommended to use 1 capsule of 75 mg once or twice a day, during a treatment of 5 days.
  • Children older than 1 year: For such cases it is estimated to administer 1 capsule of 75 mg once or twice a day. This can last in a treatment from 5 to 10 days.

  • Adult patients with renal insufficiency.
  • Immunodeficient patients.

Avoid if you have:

  • Chronic lung diseases.
  • Chronic acute conditions.
  • Dementia.

Warnings:

  • It is preferable to administer this medicine under a prescription or prescription, even in prophylaxis.
  • Keep the drug out of the reach of non-adolescent children.
  • Adjust the dose in patients undergoing hemodialysis.
  • There is insufficient data on its effect on women during pregnancy, therefore a doctor’s recommendation should be required.
