What is pranosin?
Pranosine® is a synthetically manufactured medication that uses metisoprinol as its active ingredient, a chemical compound that belongs to the line of medications with antiviral and immunomodulatory effects, useful in viral infections .

What is pranosine used for?
- Pranosine®, due to its antiviral action , inhibits the replication of viruses, which affect the health of many patients with diseases of viral origin. (two)
- It is used to treat:
- Childhood viral rashes such as chickenpox, measles, and rubella.
- Herpes simplex (labial and facial), genital herpes and herpes zoster.
- Rhinopharyngitis of viral etiology.
- Hepatitis.

Dosage and routes of administration of pranosine
The presentation of pranosine® is in 500 mg tablets and 250 mg/5 ml metisoprinol syrup, in a 60 ml bottle. The route of administration in both cases is oral and the dose as a reference can be the following:
- Syrup every 4 hours: Children 1 to 12 months of age 2.5 ml; from 1 to 5 years of age 5 ml and from 5 to 12 years of age 7.5 ml.
- Tablets: Adults should start with an initial dose of 2 x 500 mg tablets and then 1 x 500 mg tablet every 4 hours.
Pranosine Side Effects
The use of pranosine® can cause some of the following adverse effects in certain patients :
- Possible allergic reactions due to contact with any component of pranosine®.
- Nausea.
- gastritis .
- Possible increase in uric acid in the blood.
Important: If the mentioned effects or any other symptoms not included in this list appear, please stop the treatment and notify your doctor .
Contraindications and warnings of pranosine
Treatment with pranosine® is contraindicated in any of the following circumstances:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the formula’s components.
- Patients with rheumatic diseases such as gout.
- During the period of pregnancy.
- During the lactation period .

Avoid if you have:
- History of hypersensitivity to metisoprinol.
- gouty arthritis
Warnings:
- Products such as pranosine® must be administered with a prescription or medical prescription.
