Benadryl® is a registered trademark of a synthetically manufactured medication, which uses diphenhydramine hydrochloride (1) as its active ingredient , a chemical compound belonging to the line of antihistamine medications with effects on allergic processes and their symptoms in the body .

Dosage and routes of administration of benadryl
The presentations of benadryl® are in tablets containing 25 mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride and in the form of a syrup solution in a 120 ml bottle containing 250 mg diphenhydramine hydrochloride. The administration in both cases is orally and the posology as a reference, can be the following:
- Tablets: Adults and children over 12 years of age, take 1 to 2 tablets every 4 to 6 hours for as long as the doctor indicates.
- Syrup: Adults and children over 12 years of age, 10 to 20 ml every 4 to 6 hours. Children 6 to 12 years of age, 5 to 10 ml every 4 to 6 hours and children 2 to 6 years of age, 2.5 ml every 4 to 6 hours.

Therapeutic treatment with benadryl® can cause in certain patients some of the following adverse effects:
- Possible occurrence of allergic reactions due to patient contact with any chemical component of the formula.
- Blurred vision , sleepiness , dizziness.
- Lack of appetite, low blood pressure, dry mouth.
- Inflammation in the skin , muscle weakness, lack of coordination in body movements.
- Irritability, insomnia or euphoria.
Important: If during the use of this drug the patient manifests any of these symptoms or another not described in the list, please discontinue its use and notify your doctor .
Contraindications and warnings of benadryl
The use of benadryl® is contraindicated in any of the following cases:
- Patient hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula.
- In children under 2 years of age in the case of syrup solution and in children under 12 years of age in the case of tablets.
- Patients with high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, kidney and liver diseases
- People who suffer from asthma, prostate disease, glaucoma, gastritis or peptic ulcer .
- During the period of pregnancy or breastfeeding .
You should know: Provide all the information regarding your health history to your doctor, before starting treatment with this drug.
Avoid if you have:
- History of hypersensitivity to diphenhydramine hydrochloride.
- History of asthma, prostate disease, glaucoma, gastritis, peptic ulcer or other disease not notified to the treating physician.
- Medication for other pathologies not notified to your doctor.
Warnings:
- Pharmaceutical products such as benadryl®, must be administered with prescription or medical prescription.
