Dostein®is a synthetically developed medicinethat uses erdosthein(1) as its active ingredient, a chemical compound with antioxidant effect in support ofthe prevention treatment of any respiratory disease, which belongs to the line of mucolytic drugs.

What is dostein for?
- Dostein®is a mucolytic medication that increases mucus fluidity to improve pulmonary ventilation forthe health ofpatients with respiratory conditions.
- It is used to treat:
- Acute and chronic upper airway infectionssuch as rhinitis, sinusitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, tracheitis and bronchitis. (3)
- Obstructive pulmonary disease. (4)
- Hypersecretory bronchopulmonary diseases with emphysema.
- Improvement in pulmonary ventilation.
- Prevention of deterioration of respiratory function as a result of bronchial disease.
- Bronchiectasis and bronchial asthma with hypersecretion.
Dosage and routes of administration of dostein
The presentation of dostein®is in capsules, with content of 300 mg of erdostein in boxes with 20, 30, 40 and 60 pieces. It is also sold in a powder bottle for 90 ml of suspension. The route of administration in both cases is oral and the dose to be given in an informative mannerisas follows:
- Dostein® capsules: Children over 12 years of age and adults 1 capsule every 12 hours, for as long as your doctor indicates.
- Dostein® suspension:Children 7 to 12 years of age, 2.5 ml (1/2 teaspoon) every 12 hours. Children 2 to 6 years of age, 5 ml every 12 hours (1 teaspoon) and children over 12 years of age, 7.5 ml (11/2 teaspoons) every 12 hours
Dostein Side Effects
Dostein® can cause some of the following Adverse effects in certain people :
- Possible allergic reactions from contact with any component of the formula.
- Abdominal neuralgia.
- Nausea.
- Possible appearance of gastritis .
Important: Stop taking this drug and consult your doctor if you notice the appearance of any of these symptoms or another not included in the list.
contraindications and warnings of dostein
dostein® is contraindicated in the following circumstances:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the components of erdosteine.
- It should not be administered to children under 2 years of age.
- Do not use during the pregnancy period.
- Do not administer during breastfeeding .
- Do not administer to the elderly with chronic liver disease.
You should know: Provide your doctor with all the information related to your health history, before starting treatment with dostein®.
Avoid if you have:
- History of hypersensitivity to erdosteine.
Warnings:
- Pharmaceutical products such as dostein®, must be administered with a prescription or medical prescription.
- Follow the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist, to avoid risks of overdose.
- This medicine should be kept out of the reach of children.
- Caution should be exercised in elderly patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment, as dosage adjustments will need to be made.
