Dexketoprofenis an analgesic drug, included within the group ofnonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Its mechanism of action is based on theinhibition of the synthesis of prostaglandins, a substance responsible, among others, for the appearance of inflammation as aresponse mechanism of the immune system.
Its active ingredient isdexketoprofen trometamol, in tablets of25mg for oral administration and also insolution for injection of 50 mg / 2 mL.
To highlight: The generally recommended dose of this drug in presentation of 25 mg, isone tablet every 8 hoursby oral administration, without chewing and taken with water, but thiscan be adjusted by your treating physiciandepending on the type, intensity and duration of pain. The daily limit consumption is75 mgunless medically recommended.
It is also advisable to consume this tablet at least30 minutes before meals, to avoid delaying its absorption. Its analgesic effect occurs during the first45 minutesof having consumed it and its effect lasts approximately8 hourswith a good tolerance rate. (1)
What is dexketoprofen for?
Due to its analgesic and anti-inflammatory property, dexketoprofen may be indicated in the following cases:
1. Muscle and joint pain
Muscle and joint pain is very common in the population of older adults and athletes, due on the one hand to the degeneration of muscle and bone tissue, and on the other, to thevery frequent traumas in the practice of sports activities.
Note: Studies have indicatedthe effectiveness of using dexketoprofen to treat mild to moderate skeletal muscle pain. (2)
2. Dental pain
Dental painis very common in the general population, due to trauma or surgical interventions for tooth extraction.
You should know: Studies support the use of dexketoprofen to control the negative sensation of postoperative pain, after dental surgery. (3)
3. Dysmenorrhea
Dysmenorrhea is the pain that accompanies menstruation and occurs frequently in young adolescent women. It is characterized by severe, frequent and sometimes very painful menstrual cramps related to menstruation.

Dexketoprofen Side Effects
The administration of dexketoprofen trometamol can cause adverse reactions in some patients such as:
- Fluid retention.
- Ulcer risk.
- Nausea and/or vomiting.
- Stomach pain, diarrhea.
- Digestive disorders (dyspepsia).
- Anaphylactic reactions very rarely.
Important: If you notice any of these side effects, stop using it and consult a doctor immediately.
Dexketoprofen contraindications
This medicine is contraindicated in patients with the following conditions:
- Hypersensitivity to some of the components of dexketoprofen.
- If you suffer from peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding.
- If you have Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.
- If you have bleeding disorders or if there is an increased risk of bleeding.
- If you are taking aminoglycoside antibiotics.
- If you have a bleeding disorder or are taking antiplatelet drugs.
