Caladryl® is the brand name of a medication that usesthe combination of pramoxin hydrochloride(1) and zinc acetate dihydrate(2), two chemical compounds that together exerta local anesthetic and skin-protective effecton certain conditions.
What is caladryl for?
- Caladryl® thanks to its chemical components for topical use, is indicated in therelief of someskin conditions derived fromexogenous allergic reactions or unforeseen accidents of mild to moderate.
- It is used to treat:
- Itching caused by allergic reactions.
- Exanthemas of viral diseases such as chickenpox, measles, insect bites, senile itching along with the symptoms that accompany it such as itching and redness.
- Dermatitiscaused by irritating chemicals such as detergents and solvents.
- Contact dermatitis caused by plants and cosmetic products, along with its symptoms such as irritations. (4)
- Non-suppurative dermatosis such as neurodermatitis, eczema among others.
- Pain and itching caused by 1st and 2nd degree (auxiliary) burns.
- Itching and pain caused by 1st and 2nd degree (auxiliary) sunburn.
- Pain from minor wounds such as small cuts and scrapes (auxiliary).
Dosage and routes of administration of caladryl
Caladryl® is soldin a bottle with 180 mlof pramoxin hydrochloride, 1 g and 0.100 g of zinc acetate in lotion form. The administration iscutaneousand the recommended dosage is as follows:
- Children over 2 years of age and adults:Treatment of pain and intense itching, apply a thin layer every 2 to 3 hours for one or two days. In case of mild to moderate pain and itching, apply every 3 to 4 hours.
Caladryl Side Effects
Clinical data indicate that the use of caladryl® may generate some of the following adverse effects in a certain patient population:
- Possible allergic reactions such as itching and erythema, due to contact with any component of the formula.
- Itching or pain in the treated area
- Dryness in the application area.
Important: If you notice the appearance of any of these symptoms or another not included in the list during the application of caladryl®, please stop using it and consult your doctor .
Contraindications and warnings of caladryl
The pharmacological use of caladryl® is contraindicated in the following cases:
- Patient hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula.
You should know: Before starting treatment with this medicine, provide all the information about your medical history to your doctor, before starting treatment with caladryl®.
Avoid if you have:
- History of hypersensitivity to pramoxine hydrochloride or zinc acetate.
Warnings:
- Pharmaceutical products such as caladryl® must be administered with a prescription.
- This product is for external use only.
- Keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
- Do not extend the treatment beyond 7 days, without the authorization of your doctor.
- No treatment studies have been conducted in women during pregnancy or lactation , so it is recommended to apply under medical supervision in these circumstances.
- Store this product in a cool, dry place.
