What is buscapina?

Buscopin is ananticholinergic medication, indicated for the treatment ofpain of the gastrointestinal tract (antispasmodic). It is also indicated to treat discomfort caused by spasms and dyskinesias in the bile ducts and spasms in the genitourinary tract. (1)

Buscopin comes as10 mg tablets. Its active substance ishyoscine butylbromide, butylhyoscine or scopolamine butylbromide. It can be administered inadults and children over 6 years ofage orally, in a recommended dose of one to two tablets 3 to 5 times a day, without exceeding 100 mg daily.

What is buscopan used for?

Buscopine (scopolamine butylbromide) is a medication that is indicated for smooth muscle pain in the following cases:

1. Gastrointestinal, biliary and genitourinary pain

Gastrointestinal, biliary or genitourinary spasms are involuntary contractions of smooth muscles, caused first by a deficiency of some nutrient such as magnesium and potassium or in more urgent cases such as those caused by infections or inflammations. It manifests as sharp pain or cramping in the affected area.

2. Irritable bowel syndrome

Buscopine Side Effects

The use of this medicine can cause some effect or annoying reactions in some patients, such as those described below:

Buscopine Contraindications

This medication should not be used in any of the following conditions:

  • Urinary retention due to any pathology.
  • If you are taking medication for other pathologies.
