What is algidol?

  • For the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and acute gout: Take 1 capsule three or four times a day orally with water.
  • Juvenile rheumatoid arthritis: Take a dose of 30 to 40 mg/kg/day divided orally with water.
  • Non-articular rheumatic conditions: Take one 600 mg capsule every 6 to 8 hours, depending on the analgesic results in the patient.
  • In cases of sprain or muscle strain : Take a dose of one capsule every 4 to 6 hours, depending on the response in the patient.

Important: Do not exceed the dose indicated by your doctor, to avoid overdose episodes and their consequences.

What is algidol used for?

As we have previously mentioned, algidol is a drug with analgesic , antipyretic and anti-inflammatory properties indicated for the following cases:

1. Pain 

Osteoarticular diseases in elderly people or people who suffer from disabling pathologies, manifest as the main symptom the pain that occurs in pathologies such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and acute gout.

It is also indicated for pain from sprains, muscle strains, tendonitis, bursitis, and lower back pain.

2. Fever

Fever is an abnormal state of body temperature, whose level is above 38 °C and is presented as a defense and alarm signal of the immune system.

Algidol Side Effects

Treatment with algidol may cause some of the following side effects in certain patients :

  • Allergic reactions to the components of algidol.
  • Nausea, vomiting, headache, indigestion, and abdominal pain.
  • Drowsiness and asthma attacks.
  • If you are taking acetylsalicylic acid , it may reduce the effectiveness of algidol (ibuprofen) or other drugs such as oral anticoagulants, so blood coagulation status should be monitored.

Contraindications of algidol

Treatment with this drug is contraindicated in the following cases:

  • In patients with hypersensitivity to algidol or any of its components.

  • In patients with gastrointestinal disorders such as bleeding, as it can cause anemia and may also increase the risk of damage to the gastrointestinal mucosa 
  • In women in periods of pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • During the consumption of alcohol or prohibited substances.

  • In children under 12 years of age, since its safety in this population has not been studied.
