What is ventolin?

Ventolin is a synthetic drug, with a short-lived rapid bronchodilator effect, which acts on the pulmonary tract to facilitate airflow. Its active substance is salbutamo l (assalbutamol sulfate), a medicine that works as an adrenergic receptor agonistwith some selectivity for beta 2 receptors. (1)

Note: This medication worksby relaxing the smooth muscles of the bronchial tree to relieve pulmonary obstruction and facilitate oxygen entry.

The presentation of this medicine is in a200-dose pressure buccal aerosol bottle for inhalationand is administered through the mouthpiece or inhaler of a nebulizer device. The dose will depend on theage and health situation of the patientand in general the dose in adults and children under 12 years of age3 to 4 times a day.

What is ventolin for?

Treatment with ventolin in adult patients serves to eliminateobstruction of the pulmonary tractin the following cases:

1. Asthma

Asthma is a very common chronic Respiratory Pathology , in which the airways become inflamed and their production of mucus increases, partially obstructing the pulmonary tree, making it difficult for the body to breathe. (two)

Important: The prescription of this medication must be made by a specialist doctor with a prescription.

2. Bronchospasm

Bronchospasm occurs when the mucous membranes of the bronchi become inflamed, causing obstruction of the passage of air to the lungstag. To compensate for this oxygen deficiency, the body increases the rate of respiration.(3)

You should know: The use of adrenergic receptor agonists with some selectivity for beta 2 receptors, such as salbutamol , is indicated to restore airflow through the respiratory tract. (4)

Ventolin Side Effects

The use of Ventolin to clear the airways of the lungs Can cause some of the following side effects in certain patients:

  • Hypersensitivity reactions to any of the components of Ventolin, since it may present peripheral vasodilation.
  • Mouth and throat irritation.
  • Tachycardia.
  • Headache.

Important: If during the administration of ventolin some of these symptoms or others not described appear, stop using it and consult your doctor.

Ventolin contraindications
