Plidan® is a medicine that acts as an analgesic and in turn as an antispasmodic, relieving muscle contractions and providing adequate control of the nerves in the muscle tissues and the cramps that occur in them.

What is the plidan?

Plidan® is a commercial drug synthesized by the “Siegfried Rhein Laboratory ” (1) , whose active ingredient is Pargeverin. Its mechanism of action is based on being digested to act on the mucous walls and muscle fibers of the gastrointestinal system; sometimes it is accompanied with the amino acid lysine.

This medicine comes in tablet and solution presentations, between 10 mg, 20 mg and up to 125 mg of the active ingredient, with an oral route of administration. The doses of this drug depend on the conditions , although it is estimated that you start with 10 mg of the drug every 3 or 4 times a day.

What is the plidan used for?

Plidan® is recommended for various types of disorders that directly affect the muscles of the gastrointestinal system, making it very effective for the following cases:

1. Painful spastic syndrome

This is a way of referring to those disorders that cause spasms in the muscles of the intestines, causing constipation, strong flatulence, abdominal pain and also diarrhea .

To highlight: plidan® is prescribed for cases of irritable bowel and colon syndrome.

2. Colopathies

These are disorders that occur mainly in children and adolescents, being a series of abrupt changes in intestinal functions, accompanied by symptoms such as abdominal pain or diarrhea (due to changes in the stool).

You should know: For this, plidan® drops are applied in solution, in approximately 2 or 20 drops 3 to 4 times a day; It is recommended to do so with prescribed medical prescriptions.

3. Renal and ureteral colic 

Also called nephritic colic, are those disorders that affect the kidneys and cause obstruction in the urinary tract or ureter. These disorders are commonly caused by kidney stones or calculi and infections by germs.

4. Premenstrual tension and dysmenorrhea

Premenstrual tension is a case that is commonly linked to the nervous system and lack of serotonin, which affects the muscles of the gastrointestinal system, causing constipation and vomiting before the start of menstruation.

To highlight: Plidan® is prescribed for dysmenorrhea, a disorder that causes colic or cramps during menstruation , caused by an excess of prostaglandins (substances that interact with the contractions of the pelvic smooth muscles).

Plidan Side Effects

Plidan® can have certain adverse effects, some may appear due to excessive use , although we will focus on the most frequent with respect to the drug, which are the following:

  • Drowsiness (in excess its appearance is faster).
  • Dryness in the mouth and throat.
  • Increased blood pressure (tachycardia).
  • Blurry vision.

For safety reasons, plidan® is contraindicated for a certain number of patients, therefore a medical prescription is always required when using it. It is not recommended for people in these cases:

  • Allergies to the active principle.
  • Glaucoma (optic nerve lesions).
  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia (an enlarged prostate).
  • gastric ulcers.
