Gas retention and intestinal hyperactivity can create problematic situations for people, sometimes associated withgastrointestinal diseases. The discomfort and pain can be such that they impede the day to day of the person.

Fortunately, there is a line of treatment with antiflatulent and antispasmodic medications such as alevian duo®, which is very useful to treat the associated symptoms and which we will talk about in the next article.

What is the alevian duo?

Alevian duo® is the trade name for the combination of two active ingredients: pinaverio bromideanddimethicone, synthesized by “Takeda” laboratories(1). It is used by gastroenterologists forits mechanism of antispasmodic and antiflatulent action, thus reducing uncomfortable and painful symptoms.

Alevianduo®comes as an oral administration capsule, each consisting of100 mg pinaverio and 300 mg dimethicone. The dose used is1 tablet, twice a day, 15 minutes before each meal, like breakfast.

Note: The alevian duo®is a comprehensive treatment with triple mechanism of action, being antispasmodic regulator of intestinal transit, reduces incoercible diarrhea and functional disorders associated with meteorism. (2)

What is the alevian duo for?

The alevian duo® has greatmedical utility to treat overactive colonand discomforts related to gas retention, as we will explain below:

1. Irritable bowel syndrome

Also known asnervous colitisand abbreviated as IBS. The pathophysiological mechanisms of irritable bowel syndrome are not yet fully elucidated, but it is known that it is a functional modification that leads tovisceral hyperalgesia and allodynia (perceiving a non-painful stimulus as if it were).

, constipation discomfort and pain.

Notable: Antispasmodics, such as alevian duo®, have been approved in Europe, Mexico, and Canada to treat IBS. (3)

2. Functional disorders of the bile ducts

These include biliary dyskinesia and stenosis, biliary movement disorders, and reduction in the diameter of the sphincter of Oddi(the opening that connects the gallbladder and pancreas with the small intestine), respectively. This causes accumulation of bile and pancreatic juice, generating intense pain.

You should know: People who undergo sphincterectomy can develop biliary dyskinesia, which is why the first line of symptomatic treatment includes drugs such as Pinaverium bromide, the active ingredient in alevian duo®. (4)

3. Functional Colopathies

, alevian duo® is highly useful as a treatment.

Note: Patients experience a reduction in symptoms such as abdominal pain or discomfort.
