Fosfocil® is a commercial medicine developed by Cetus laboratories(1). In its composition, it has fosfomycin calcium monohydrate as anactive ingredient, thus allowing its capacity and mechanism of action as anantibiotic treatment for moderate and mild infections.
On the other hand, phosphocil® has differentpresentations to allow different ranges of effectiveness. For the route of oral administration, there are capsules of 500 mg and suspension, but there are also injectable solutions both intravenously and intramuscularly.
The capsules areonly indicated for patients over 12 years of age, being one capsule four times a day.
Note: Due to its active ingredient and mechanism of action, it is a medicine thatrequires a prescription for its acquisition.
What is phosfocil for?
Phosphocil® is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, so it isapplied for different medical treatments. We mention below the main uses of this drug:
1. Urinary tract infections

Fosfocil side effects
All medicines have stipulated possible side effects,which can develop during their use as a treatment. We mention those of fosfocil® below:
- Diarrhea, dizziness and vomiting.
- Headache and nasal congestion.
- Yellowing of the skin.
Important: If any of the side effects mentioned above occur and do not disappear when treatment is discontinued, it is important to seek medical advice for information.
Fosfocil contraindications
Contraindications are factors that we must take into account before starting a medical treatment,to reduce the risk of the appearance of adverse effects. We mention those of fosfocil® below:
- Do not indicate if the patient is allergic or hypersensitive to the components of the drug.
- Do not indicate to patients with severe renal insufficiency.
- Do not indicate if pregnancy is suspected or if you are lactating.
- Do not drink alcohol during medical treatment.
