Dorixin is the trade nameof lysine clonixinate, a drug marketed bySiegfried Rhein®, S.A. de C.V. laboratories. (1). Its mechanism of actionis the same as that of other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen. (2)
Note: It should be noted that dorixin®comes in tablet form of 125 and 250 mg, with oral administration.
In addition, certain presentations such as dorixin flex®, combine lysine clonixinate with other active ingredients, such as cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride, to enhance the analgesic effects.
What is dorixin for?
Dorixin® is used asan analgesic, in a large number of pains or conditionsand there are studies that suggest that its effectiveness is similar to that of other analgesics, as we will see below:
1. Gynecological and urological pain
The aches andcramps associated with menstruation (known asdysmenorrhea) tend to be quite debilitating.

Odontogenic pain is a frequent complaint in dentistry . Analgesics such as paracetamol or ibuprofen are generally used to reduce pain.
Note: A study published in the Journal of Health Sciences showed that the combination of paracetamol with the active principle of dorixin® is useful for relieving pain and postoperative inflammation , which usually occurs after dental surgery. (7)
4. Headache, ear pain and sinusitis
Since dorixin® inhibits cyclooxygenase (enzyme responsible for the conversion of arachidonic acid to proinflammatory molecules), it is useful for cases of pain with an inflammatory component .

Dorixin Side Effects
The risk of adverse reactions is greater with dorixin ® than with other NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen or diclofenac, therefore its use in humans is limited. Next, we will mention the most common:
- Peptic ulcer formation.
- Gastrointestinal disturbances, such as nausea and Vomiting .
- Hematological alterations, such as different types of anemia and decreased platelets.
- Organic lesions in liver, kidney and pancreas.
Important: In the event of any of the aforementioned side effects, it is necessary to discontinue the use of dorixin® and seek medical attention.
Dorixin Contraindications
Dorixin® should be avoided when used in patients with the following conditions, to avoid the risk of adverse reactions :
- Known hypersensitivity to dorixin® and its components.
- Pregnant and lactating women.
- Active peptic ulcer.
- Blood diseases.
- Hepatic or renal dysfunction.
- Diabetes mellitus.
