Pain and swelling are some of the cardinal symptoms in many inflammatory diseases. Products such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are very useful to reduce these symptoms.

In this sense we have dorixin®, which has shown efficacy in experimental studies. Next, we will talk about its use, contraindications and possible adverse reactions.

What is dorixin?

Dorixin is the trade nameof lysine clonixinate, a drug marketed bySiegfried Rhein®, S.A. de C.V. laboratories. (1). Its mechanism of actionis the same as that of other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen. (2)

Note: It should be noted that dorixin®comes in tablet form of 125 and 250 mg, with oral administration.

In addition, certain presentations such as dorixin flex®, combine lysine clonixinate with other active ingredients, such as cyclobenzaprine hydrochloride, to enhance the analgesic effects.

What is dorixin for?

Dorixin® is used asan analgesic, in a large number of pains or conditionsand there are studies that suggest that its effectiveness is similar to that of other analgesics, as we will see below:

1. Gynecological and urological pain

The aches andcramps associated with menstruation (known asdysmenorrhea) tend to be quite debilitating.

To highlight: To treat the frequency and intensity of symptoms, the combination of dorixin withL-butylhyoscine bromide has shown favorable results as a line of treatment. (3)

2. Orthopedic and general trauma pain

The pain produced by gonarthrosis (inflammation of the knee joint) and ankle Sprain , could be treated orally with dorixin®.

when treated with lysine clonixinate, with a dose of 125 mg, after a few days.

3. Odontalgia and periodontitis

Odontogenic pain is a frequent complaint in dentistry . Analgesics such as paracetamol or ibuprofen are generally used to reduce pain.

Note: A study published in the Journal of Health Sciences showed that the combination of paracetamol with the active principle of dorixin® is useful for relieving pain and postoperative inflammation , which usually occurs after dental surgery. (7)

4. Headache, ear pain and sinusitis

Since dorixin® inhibits cyclooxygenase (enzyme responsible for the conversion of arachidonic acid to proinflammatory molecules), it is useful for cases of pain with an inflammatory component .

To highlight: However, the use of other medications is preferred as the initial line of treatment.

Dorixin Side Effects

The risk of adverse reactions is greater with dorixin ® than with other NSAIDs, such as ibuprofen or diclofenac, therefore its use in humans is limited. Next, we will mention the most common:

  • Peptic ulcer formation.
  • Gastrointestinal disturbances, such as nausea and Vomiting .
