What is vomisin?

Vomisin® is a synthetically manufactured drug, which contains as an active ingredientdimenhydrinate(1), a chemical compound that belongs to the line of antihistamine drugs, with effect on diseases that affect body balance functionsin the body, such as those produced in the inner ear andbrain.

What is vomisin for?

  • Vomisin® is an antihistamine thatacts by depressing the hyperstimulated labyrinth functionresponsible for dizziness, as well as inhibits gastric hypersecretion and hypermotility of the same area, relieving vomiting and other associated symptoms.
  • It is used to treat:
    • Nausea, vomiting, or dizziness associated with movement. (3)
    • Vestibular alterations such as Ménière’sdisease and other types of vertigo.
    • Motion sickness.

Dosage and routes of administration of vomisin

Vomisin® is sold in various forms, such as boxed withtablets of 50 mg, drops and solution for injection, withoral or intramuscularadministration as the case may be and the dose according to the presentation for information purposes may be as follows:

  • Tablets: Children 6 to 12 years of age and adolescents, 1 tablet of 50 mg, every 8 hours. Adults 1 or 2 tablets of 50 mg, every 6 or 8 hours.
  • Drops:Children from 2 to 6 years of age, 1 ml every 12 hours; children from 6 to 12 years of age 2 ml, every 12 hours; adolescents, 2 to 4 ml, every 8 hours and adults, 2 to 4 ml every 6 or 8 hours a day.
  • Injectable solution: Place 1 ml, every 6 hours administered slowly.

Vomiting side effects

The use of vomisin® can cause in certain patients some of the following adverse effects:

  • Possible allergic reactions due to contact with any component of the formula.
  • Possible appearance of purpura and erythema.
  • Symptoms such as sedation, hallucinations , and Delusions may also occur .
  • Decreased night vision, stereopsis, and blurred vision may occur.
  • Dependence and tolerance may appear less frequently.
  • Oral and nasal mucosa dryness.
  • Dysuria, headache, anorexia and nervousness.

Important: If any of these symptoms appear during the use of vomisin®, please stop treatment and consult your doctor.

Vomisin contraindications and warnings

The use of vomisin®  is contraindicated in any of the following circumstances:

  • Hypersensitivity to any component of the formula.
  • Patients with asthma attacks, hyperthyroidism, porphyria and epilepsy.
  • People with kidney failure and liver failure.
  • Patients with arterial hypertension.
  • If you suffer from urinary retention .
  • During pregnancy without medical authorization.
  • During breastfeeding .

You should know: Provide your doctor with all the information related to your medical history, before using vomisin®.

Avoid if you have:

  • Prostatic hypertrophy.
  • Closed angle glaucoma.
  • Some gastrointestinal disease.

Warnings:

  • Pharmaceutical products that contain dimenhydrinate, such as vomisin®, must be administered with a prescription or medical prescription.
  • Clinical data indicates that this product should not be administered in combination with anticholinergic drugs, tranquilizers, and central Nervous System depressants .
  • Antihistamine medications, such as Vomisin®, should be kept out of the reach of children.
  • Store this medication in a cool, dry place.
  • The doses of this type of drug must be strictly indicated by a specialist doctor, therefore avoid self-medication.
