Viternum® is the brand name of a medicine thatuses dihexazine as the active ingredient, a chemical compound belonging to the line of medicineswith appetite stimulating effect, used to treat certain nutritional dysfunctions.

What is viternum for?

  • Thanks to its active ingredient, viternum®decreases the activity of the satietycenter of thehypothalamusstimulating the lateral center and thereforeincreasing the appetite of people with loss of appetite or malnutrition problems.
  • It is used to treat:
    • Anorexia and states of malnutrition.

Dosage and routes of administration of viternum

Viternum® is soldin a 140 ml bottle containing 5 mlof solution, to be reconstituted with 84 mg of the active substance dihexazine. The administrationis oraland the dosage for informational purposes may be as follows:

  • Children from 2 to 4 years old: A dose of 5 ml 3 times a day before meals.
  • Children from 4 to 10 years old: A dose of 10 ml 3 times a day before meals.
  • Older children and adults: A dose of 15 ml 3 times a day before meals.

Viternum Side Effects

Therapeutic treatment with viternum® may cause some of the following side effects in a certain patient population:

  • Possible allergic reactions from contact with any component of the formula.
  • Sedation and drowsiness.
  • Headache.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Nausea.
  • Vomiting.
  • Palpitations and occasionalblurred vision.
  • It may potentiate the effects of other histaminergic antagonists.

Important: If during treatment with this drug appear any of these symptoms or any other not included in this list, pleasediscontinue use and consult your doctor.

Contraindications and warnings of viternum

The use of viternum®is contraindicatedin the following cases:

  • Hypersensitivity of the patient to any component of the formula.
  • Children under 2 years of age.
  • Patients with angle-closure glaucoma.
  • People with prostatic hypertrophy or stenosingpeptic ulcer.
  • Patients with vesicular neck obstruction.
  • During the period of pregnancy.
  • Duringbreastfeeding.

You should know: Giveall information about your health history to yourdoctor before starting treatment with this medicine.

Avoid it if you have:

  • History of hypersensitivity to dihexazine.

Warnings:

  • Pharmaceuticals such as viternum® must be administered with a prescription or prescription.
