Secnidazole is a synthetic medicine classified as an active ingredient, with antiparasitic properties to treat diseases of infectious origin mainly in the gastrointestinal and urogenitaltract. (1)
What is secnidazole for?
- Secnidazole is used for the treatment of bacteria and parasites that cause various pathologies in the intestines, genitals andurinary tract.

Dosage and routes of administration of secnidazole
Secnidazole comes as500 mg and 1 gram tablets and powder to mix with distilled water and obtain suspension. The dosage described below is for informational purposes only and medical advice is recommended:
- Amoebiasis: Adults 2 gr in a single oral dose at the beginning of the meal. Children 30 mg/kg/day in a single dose.
- Hepatic amebiasis: Adults 1.5 g/day in 1 or several oral administrations, at the beginning of the main feeding. Children 30 mg/kg/day in 1 or several doses, at the beginning of the meal.
- Giardiasis and trichomoniasis: Adults and children over 12 years of age, 4 tablets (2 grams) in a single dose or two tablets every 12 hours orally.

Sabima®
- Sabima® is an Antiparasitic Medication belonging to the nitroimidazole family, whose active ingredient is secnidazole.
- It is formulated for the treatment of intestinal amoebiasis, giardiasis, vaginal trichomoniasis and bacterial vaginosis.
Daksol®
- Daksol® is an antiparasitic medication,Whose active ingredient is secnidazole in 500 mg and 1 gr presentation.
- It is indicated in the treatment of patients with amoebiasis (intestinal or hepatic) and trichomoniasis.
Bianos®
- Bianos® is a synthetic medication, whose active principle is secnidazole in various presentations.
- This drug is indicated for the treatment of intestinal and extraintestinal amebiasis , giardiasis and trichomoniasis in a single dose.
Fazol®
- Fazol® is an antiparasitic and antiprotozoal drug, in presentation of 500 mg and 1 g of secnidazole.
- It is used to treat intestinal infections caused by microorganisms that alter intestinal, genital, and urinary health, such as amoebas, giardia, and vaginal trichomonas.
Secnidazole Side Effects
Treatment with secnidazole may cause some of the following side effects in certain patients :
- Possible allergic reactions due to contact with any component of the formula.
- Metallic flavor in the mouth.
- Nausea or abdominal pain.
- Vertigo.
- Possible inflammation of the tongue.
- Ataxia (lack of coordination in movements), tingling sensation.
Important: If any of these symptoms or any other not included in the list appear, stop using it and consult your doctor.
Contraindications and warnings of secnidazole
Treatment with secnidazole is contraindicated in the following cases:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug.
- In patients with blood dyscrasias.
- In the period of pregnancy or lactation .
- Children under 2 years of age.

- During treatment with secnidazole you cannot consume alcoholic beverages.

- Keep this product in a dry and cool place.
- Do not administer outside the expiration date.
