What is paramix?
Paramix® is the trademark of a synthetic medication, which uses nitazoxanide as its active principle , a chemical compound belonging to the line of antiparasitic medications with an effect on parasites in the intestinal tract .

What is paramix used for?
- Thanks to the mechanism of action of its active principle, paramix® acts on protozoa and anaerobic bacteria, inhibiting the essential enzyme in anaerobic metabolism, thus stopping their growth, relieving diarrheal states. (two)
- It is used to treat:
- Acute or chronic intestinal amoebiasis.
- Amebic dysentery caused by Entamoeba histolytica.
- Giardiasis, helminthiasis ( nematodes, cestodes and flukes ).
- Enterobiasis ( vermicular ).
- Ascariasis ( lumbricoides ),
- Strongyloidiasis ( stercoralis) .
- Necatoriasis ( americanus ).
- Hookworm ( duodenale ).
- Trichuriasis ( trichuris ).
- Taeniasis ( saginata and solium ).
- Hymenolepiasis ( nan a).
- Fasciolosis (hepatic).
- Vaginal trichomoniasis (trichomonas vaginalis) and as a preventive treatment in couples.
Dosage and routes of administration of the paramix
Paramix® presentations are in the form of tablets, which contain nitazoxanide 500 mg and suspension containing nitazoxanide 2 g. The administration of this medication in both cases is orally and the dosage as a reference can be as follows:
- Tablets: Take 1 tablet of 500 mg twice a day, according to the diagnosis of the attending physician.
- Suspension: Children from 1 to 4 years of age 5 ml every 12 hours; children 5 to 11 years of age 5 to 10 ml every 12 hours and children 12 years of age and adults 25 ml every 12 hours.
Paramix Side Effects
Therapeutic treatment with paramix® may cause, in a certain patient population , some of the following adverse effects:
- Possible appearance of allergic reactions due to contact with any component of the formula.
- Headache , anorexia, nausea, colicky pain, and vomiting .
- Transient change in urine coloration.
- Nonspecific epigastric discomfort.
Important: If the patient manifests any of these symptoms or another not described, please discontinue use and consult your doctor .
Paramix contraindications and warnings
The use of paramix® is contraindicated in the following cases:
- Patient hypersensitivity to any of the chemical components of the drug.
- Children under 2 years of age.
- Hypersensitivity to acetylsalicylic acid .
- During the pregnancy period.
- During breastfeeding .
You should know: Provide all the information related to your medical history to your doctor, before starting treatment with this drug.
Avoid if you have:
- History of hypersensitivity to the components of the drug or to acetylsalicylic acid.
Warnings:
- Pharmaceutical products such as paramix®, must be administered with prescription or medical prescription.
- Follow your doctor’s instructions during treatment with this drug.
- Do not exceed recommended dose.
- It must be taken into account that this medication should be administered with caution, in patients with renal and/or hepatic insufficiency.
- Keep this product out of the reach of children.
