Ofloxacinis an active ingredient, considered as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent belonging to the quinolone group, with bactericidal effect byacting by inhibiting most urological pathogens.
What is ofloxacin for?
- Ofloxacinfavors the inhibition of the enzyme DNA-gyrasepresent in a large number of susceptible infectious germs such asEscherichia coli, Haemophilus influenzae, Salmonella, Neisseria gonorrhoeaeamong others, which cause infectious processes(1). With this mechanism it is possible to kill the bacteria andreduce until the annoying symptoms of the infections caused disappear. (2)
- It is used to treat:
- Infections in the kidney and genitourinary tract. (3)
- Sexually transmitted diseases.
- Diseases of the abdominal cavity, including the pelvis.
- Diseases of therespiratory tract.
- Skinand soft tissue diseases.
- Bacterial diarrhea.
- Prostatitis.
Dosage and routes of administration of ofloxacin
The most common presentation of ofloxacin is intablets in concentrations of 200 mg, 300 mg and 400 mgin boxes with different amounts and in 0.3% ophthalmic solution. The route of administration in this case is oral and the dosage as a guideline may be as follows:
- Urinary tract infections: From 200 mg to 400 mg every 12 or 24 hours, as medically indicated.
- Skin and soft tissue infections: 400 mg every 12 hours as medically indicated.
- Osteomyelitis: 400 mg every 12 hours as medically indicated.
- Lower respiratory tract infections: 400 mg every 12 hours according to medical indication.
- Pelvic inflammatory disease: 400 mg every 12 hours according to medical indication.
- Eye infections : 1 drop in each eye three to four times a day.

Floxstat®
- Floxstat® is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic drug with bactericidal action, whose main component is ofloxacin.
- It is indicated for the treatment in adults of lower respiratory and genitourinary tract infections , among others.
Bactocin®
- Bactocin® is a broad-spectrum antibiotic drug that uses ofloxacin as its active ingredient.
- It is used in the treatment of multiple infections in the body.
Flosep®
- flosep® is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial drug that uses ofloxacin as its active ingredient.
- It is used to treat kidney and genitourinary tract infections, sexually transmitted diseases, diarrhea, among others.
Microbac®
- microbac® is a broad-spectrum antibiotic tablet, which mainly contains ofloxacin as the active ingredient.
- It is indicated in the treatment of bacterial infections that affect various parts of the body.
Ofloxacin Side Effects
The use of ofloxacin can cause in certain patients , some of the following side effects:
- Possible allergic reactions due to contact with any component of the formula.
- Nausea, vomiting and dizziness.
- Itching, skin rashes, phlebitis and insomnia .
- Rarely external itching of the female genitalia.
Important: If any of these symptoms appear during treatment with ofloxacin, please discontinue use and consult your doctor .
Contraindications and warnings of ofloxacin
The use of ofloxacin is contraindicated in the following circumstances:
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the formula.
- In patients under 18 years of age.
- Caution in patients with impaired renal function.
- During the pregnancy period.
- During breastfeeding .

Warnings:
