What is macrofurin used for?

Dose and routes of administration of macrofurin

The presentation of macrofurin® is in capsules with 100 mg of nitrofurantoin, in a box of 40 capsules. The administration is orally and the dose for information may be as follows:

  • Adults: 50 to 100 mg every 6 hours for uncomplicated urinary tract infections.
  • Children over 12 years of age or weighing over 40 kg: 1 50 mg capsule, every 4 times a day.
  • Children over 12 years of age weighing less than 40 kg: 5 to 7 mg/kg per day in 24 hours, divided into 4 doses every 6 hours.

Macrofurin Side Effects

The use of macrofurin® can cause in certain patients some of the following adverse reactions :

  • Possible allergic reactions due to contact with any component of the formula.
  • Fever , cough and chest pain.
  • Hepatitis risk.
  • Vomiting , diarrhea , and nausea may occur .
  • In isolated cases, deterioration of respiratory function may occur.
  • Steven Johnson syndrome.
  • Hematologic disorders such as hemolytic anemia and eosinophilia.

Important: If any of these symptoms appear during treatment with macrofurin®, please discontinue use and inform your doctor .

Contraindications and warnings of macrofurin

Treatment with macrofurin® is contraindicated in the following cases:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula.
  • In people with kidney failure.
  • During the period of pregnancy or lactation .
  • In children under 12 years of age.

Avoid if you have:

  • Kidney deterioration problems.
