Dosage and routes of administration of koptin

Koptin® comes as 500 mg tablets and 22.5 ml (900 mg) powder bottle, containing200 mg in 5 ml. The administration in both casesis orallyand the dose for informational purposes may be as follows:

  • Tablets: Respiratory tract infections, adults and childrenweighing more than 45 kilograms: 1 tablet of 500 mg every 24 hours for three days. Skin and soft tissue infections: 1 tablet once a dayfor 3 days. Sexually transmitted infections: Adults 1 g (2 tablets) 1 time a day in a single dose.
  • Suspension: Respiratory tract infections 30 mg/kg administered at a single daily dose of 10 mg/kg, for three days.

Koptin Side Effects

Koptin® can cause in certain patients some of the following side effects: in certain patients:

  • Possible allergic reactions due to contact with any component of the formula.
  • Possible appearance of anorexia, nausea, vomiting , diarrhea , abdominal pain and flatulence.
  • Possible hearing impairment.
  • Other less frequent side effects are dizziness, vertigo, seizures, headache, and drowsiness.
  • Much less frequent Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis.

Important: If any of these symptoms or others not included in the list appear during treatment with koptin®, please discontinue use and notify your doctor .

Contraindications and warnings of koptin

The use of koptin® is contraindicated in the following cases:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the components of koptin®.
  • Hypersensitivity to any other macrolide or ketolide antibiotic.
  • In women during pregnancy.
