Koptin is a synthetic drug that uses azithromycin®as an active ingredient, which belongs to the line of drugs called macrolide antibiotics, being a chemical compound that acts as an antibioticfor the treatment of infections in thebody caused by bacteria.

What is koptin for?
- Koptin®acts as a bactericidal agentstopping the growth of bacteria causing different infections in the body, inhibiting the synthesis of proteins by bacteria, eliminating them. (2)
- It is used to treat:
- Sexually transmitted infections caused byChlamydia trachomatis or Neisseria gonorrhoeae. (3)
- Respiratory tractinfections such asbronchitis, sinusitis, pharyngotonsillitis, pneumonia and throat infections.
- Skin and soft tissue infections.
- Otitis media.
Dosage and routes of administration of koptin
Koptin® comes as 500 mg tablets and 22.5 ml (900 mg) powder bottle, containing200 mg in 5 ml. The administration in both casesis orallyand the dose for informational purposes may be as follows:
- Tablets: Respiratory tract infections, adults and childrenweighing more than 45 kilograms: 1 tablet of 500 mg every 24 hours for three days. Skin and soft tissue infections: 1 tablet once a dayfor 3 days. Sexually transmitted infections: Adults 1 g (2 tablets) 1 time a day in a single dose.
- Suspension: Respiratory tract infections 30 mg/kg administered at a single daily dose of 10 mg/kg, for three days.
Koptin Side Effects
Koptin® can cause in certain patients some of the following side effects: in certain patients:
- Possible allergic reactions due to contact with any component of the formula.
- Possible appearance of anorexia, nausea, vomiting , diarrhea , abdominal pain and flatulence.
- Possible hearing impairment.
- Other less frequent side effects are dizziness, vertigo, seizures, headache, and drowsiness.
- Much less frequent Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis.
Important: If any of these symptoms or others not included in the list appear during treatment with koptin®, please discontinue use and notify your doctor .
Contraindications and warnings of koptin
The use of koptin® is contraindicated in the following cases:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the components of koptin®.
- Hypersensitivity to any other macrolide or ketolide antibiotic.
- In women during pregnancy.
