What is the chanumet?

Janumet® is the trademark of a synthetic medicine, which uses the combination of two active principles that are sitagliptin (1) and metformin (2) , two chemical compounds belonging to the line of medicines with properties to control the level of blood sugar .

What is the chanumet used for?

  • Thanks to the combined action of its active ingredients, janumet® works by increasing the amount of natural substances that lower blood sugar levels and also decreases the amount of glucose that the body absorbs from food and that is formed in the liver. . 
  • It is used to treat:
    • Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who are controlled, uncontrolled or inadequately controlled, as an adjunct to diet and physical exercise. (4)

Dosage and routes of administration of janumet

The janumet® presentation is boxed with 50 mg/500 mg, 50 mg/850 mg and 50 mg/1000 mg tablets. This medicine is administered orally,   the daily dosage and as a reference may be as indicated below: 

  • Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: janumet® should be administered twice a day and the concentration will be based on the medical diagnosis of the current state of the disease.

Data from clinical studies indicate that treatment with janumet® may cause some of the following adverse effects  in a certain group of patients :

  • Appearance of possible allergic manifestations due to patient contact with any of the components of the formula.
  • Diarrhea , nausea, dyspepsia and stomach pain .
  • Risk of accumulation of lactic acid.
  • Flatulence, vomiting , hypoglycemia and headache .

Important: If you present any of these symptoms or another not described, please stop taking janumet® and consult your doctor .

Janumet Contraindications and Warnings

The use of janumet® is contraindicated in any of the cases mentioned below: 

  • Hypersensitivity of the patient to any of the components of the drug.
  • Patients with any type of acute metabolic acidosis.
  • People with diabetic pre-coma.
  • In case of severe renal failure or dehydration, severe infection and shock. 
  • Intravascular administration of iodinated contrast agents.
  • Patients with heart or respiratory failure .
  • In case of recent myocardial infarction .
  • Hepatic failure, acute alcohol intoxication (increased risk of lactic acidosis), alcoholism.
  • During the pregnancy period.
  • During breastfeeding .

You should know: Before starting treatment with this medicine, the patient must provide his doctor with all the information related to his health history .

Avoid if you have:

  • History of hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula.
  • History of myocardial infarction.
  • Medication with drugs for other pathologies without medical approval.

Warnings:

  • Pharmaceutical products such as janumet®, must be administered with prescription or medical prescription.
  • Follow your doctor’s instructions during treatment with this drug.
  • Do not exceed the indicated dose.
  • Inform your doctor if you are being medicated with other drugs for other pathologies.
  • It must be taken into account that this medication can alter laboratory results, so the patient must inform the specialist.
