What is isoconazole?

Isoconazole (isoconazole nitrate) is achemical compound of synthetic elaborationcataloged as active ingredient, which belongs to the line of medicines with antifungalor antifungal effect, which eliminates fungi and yeasts that causeskin infections.

What is isoconazole for?

  • Isoconazole is a broad-spectrum antifungal, used in thetreatment of superficial skin mycosesanywhere on the body. (1)
  • It is used to treat:
    • Superficial mycoses of the skin lodged in the interdigital spaces of the feet, hands, groin and genital region. (2)
    • Diseases such as candida balanitis.
    • Tinea cruris infections. (3)
    • Prophylaxis of genital reinfections.
    • Cutaneous candidiasis, dandruff, vulvitis, vulvovaginitisand fungal infections that cause small discolored areas on the skin.

Isoconazole dosage and routes of administration

The presentation of isoconazole is usually incream, ointment or ointmentcontained in aluminum tube of 20 gr. Theroute of administration is cutaneousand the dose will depend on medical opinion, however the following is presented as follows:

  • Cutaneous mycoses: An application of isoconazole cream is made on the affected area of the skinonce a day. In thesefungal infections, local treatments of 2 to 3 weeks are usually necessary, being able to extend up to 4 weeks if they become resistant.
  • Mycosis in the nails: Before applying, you should trim your infected nails as much as possible and after washing your nails thoroughly, place athin layer and cover it with a bandageat least twice a day, for as long as your doctor estimates.
  • Fungal vulvitis:ToTwice Daily Application of a thin layer on the affected area is recommended.

Icaden®

  • Icaden® is a medicine in the form of a cream, which contains isoconazole nitrate as an active ingredient.
  • It is indicated for the treatment of superficial mycoses of the skin.

Andronazole®

  • Andronazole®is a synthetic medication, made from isoconazole as the active ingredient.
  • It is indicated to treat superficial mycoses of the skin , erythrasma and balanitis caused by candida.

Zolmic®

  • Zolmic® is a medicine made mainly with isoconazole as the active ingredient, which comes as an ointment.
  • It is used in medicine mainly to treat tinea pedis, tinea of the hands, tinea inguinalis, in the genital region , erythrasma, among other conditions.

Nocazin®

  • Nocazin® is an antifungal medicine in the form of an ointment, made from isoconazole. 
  • It is indicated in the treatment of erythrasma, candida balanitis and superficial mycosis.

Isoconazole Side Effects

The use of isoconazole can cause some of the following side effects in certain patients :

  • Possible allergic reactions due to contact with any component of the formula.
  • Skin irritations.
  • Contact dermatitis .
  • Redness, itching and dryness. 
  • Itching and inflammation at the application site.

Important: If any of these symptoms appear during the application of isoconazole or any other not included in the list, please stop using it and consult your doctor . 

Isoconazole Contraindications and Warnings

Treatment with isoconazole is contraindicated in the following cases:

  • Hypersensitivity to any component of the formula.
  • In children under two years of age.
  • In women during the lactation period .
