Histofil®is the brand name of a pharmaceutical medicinethat usescholecalciferol (Vitamin D3), a chemical compound belonging to the line of medicines called vitamin D analogues, withan effect on bone mineralization and calcium metabolism.

What is histofil for?
- Thanks to the mechanism of action of its active ingredient, histophyll®facilitates the digestive absorption of calcium containedin the diet and participates in bone formation and restoration as well as helping in theprevention of several diseases of the bone system. (2)
- It is used to treat:
- VitaminD deficiencies due to hypocalcemia and osteoporosis type I and II.
- Vitamin D deficiencies from hyperparathyroidism with bone disease, rickets and osteomalacia.
- Vitamin D deficiencies due to obesity, diabetesmellitus, nutritional status and malabsorption.
- Patients at significant risk of vitamin D deficiency.(3)
Histofil dosage and routes of administration
The presentation of histofil® is in tabletsthat contain cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) 4,000 IU. The administrationis orally and the dosage as a reference can be as follows:
- Adults: One 4,000 IU tablet once a day.
Histofil Side Effects
Clinical data indicate that therapeutic treatment with histofil® may cause some of the following adverse effects in a certain patient population:
- Possible allergic reactions due to contact with any chemical component of the medication.
- Gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea, Vomiting , diarrhea , constipation , anorexia, pancreatitis, and lipid abnormalities.
- Polyuria, polydipsia, urolithiasis, proteinuria and kidney damage.
- Decreased levels of high-density lipoproteins and increases in low-density lipoproteins.
- Nephrocalcinosis and nephrolithiasis.
- Hypertension and possibly arrhythmias.
- Headache and psychotic symptomatology.
Important: If during treatment with this supplement any of these symptoms or another not described arise, please stop using it and consult your doctor .
Contraindications and warnings of histofil
The use of histofil® is contraindicated in the following cases:
- Patient hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula.
- Patients with hypercalcaemia and hypercalciuria, due to risk of exacerbation.
- Patients with hypervitaminosis D.
- People who suffer from calcium lithiasis.
- Patients with osteodystrophy with hyperphosphatemia.
- In severe renal insufficiency.
You should know: Provide all the information regarding your health history to your doctor, before starting treatment with this medicine.
Avoid if you have:
- History of hypersensitivity to cholecalciferol, ergocalciferol, or any of the vitamin D metabolites.
Warnings:
- Pharmaceutical products such as histofil® must be administered with a prescription or medical prescription.
- Follow your doctor’s instructions during treatment with this supplement.
- Do not exceed the dose indicated by your doctor.
- Caution should be exercised in the administration of this drug in people with atherosclerosis.
- Keep this product out of the reach of children.
- Store in a cool dry place.
