Gitrasek® is the name of a commercial drug, which hasparticular uses in mycoses (infection by bacteria), that is, it receives the property of broad-spectrum antifungal, including that of being an antibiotic for vaginal infections, vulvovaginitis or bacterial vaginosis. This is due to the availability of the components of the formula, calleditraconazoleandsecnidazole.

What is gitrasek for?
- Gitrasek® has in its composition the substance of itraconazole, which is part of theantifungal azole drugs (for bacterial infections), whose action is to prevent the synthesis of ergosterol, which is part ofthe cell membrane of fungi (specificallyCandida albicansandGardnerella vaginalis) and its proteins. Secnidazole has this same effect, however it manages to expand into various bacteria of the gastrointestinal tract. (2)
- It is used to treat:
- Candida albicans vulvovaginitis.
- Vaginal infections withTrichomoniasis or Trichomonas vaginalis.
- Bacterial vaginosis due toGardnerella vaginalis.
- Vaginal infections caused by the bacteriumMobiluncus sp.
Dosage and routes of administration of gitrasek
Gitrasek® is available only in the form of a box withapproximately 200 mg capsule (166.6 secnidazole and 33.3 itraconazole), whose route of administration is oral. The most relevant doses of gitrasek® are as follows:
- Adults: It is recommended to administer in the treatment of 1 to 2 capsules of 200 mg, for twice a day.
Side effects of gitrasek
The gitrasek® can still with its positive mechanism, bring certain adverse effects of whichit is recommended to maintain cautionif they appear, therefore you should be aware of the present reactions:
Important: If any reaction of this type occurs during treatment, it is necessary to discontinue the useof the drug and go to a specialist doctor.
Contraindications and warnings of gitrasek
Treatment with gitrasek® can bring various negative reactionsto certain patients suffering from certain diseases, therefore its use is limited in several cases. It is not recommended in the present cases:
- Hypersensitivity to the components of the chemical formula (itraconazole and secnidazole).
- Pregnancy.
- Lactation stage.
- Paediatric population (children).
Avoid it if you have:
- Blood dyscrasias andcentral nervous system (CNS) conditions.
- Hemoglobin (blood) conditions.
- Hepatic insufficiency.
Warnings:
- The capsules of the medicine should be used, preferably under a prescription if you are allergic to itraconazole or secnidazole.
- Use caution with the use of the drug if you are a patient with kidney failure, blood dyscrasias, and conditions of any kind.
- Keep the drug out of reach of children.
- Prevent deterioration of the medication by keeping it stored at room temperature.
