Facicam® is the registered trademark of asynthetic medicine of the phenolic acid familythat usespiroxicam as the active ingredient, belonging to the line of anti-inflammatory, analgesic and non-steroidal antirheumatic drugs (NSAIDs), witheffect on various musculoskeletal ailmentsin the body.

What is facicam for?
- Thanks to the mechanism of action of its main component, facicam®acts by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins, preventing the migration of polymorphonuclear to the inflamed site and reducing the production of rheumatoid factor, for therelief of painful and inflammatory processes in muscles and joints. (2)
- It is used to treat:
- Rheumatic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gouty arthritis, osteoarthritis and discomfort in the spine.
- Fibrositis, painful shoulder, bursitis, tenosynovitis, musculoskeletal conditions, bruises, sprains, dislocations, fractures, muscle tears.
- Primarydysmenorrhea.
- Acute inflammatory processes of the upper airways as an adjuvant.
Dosage and routes of administration of facicam
The facicam®comes as a box with capsulescontaining piroxicam 10 mg or 20 mg and in a boxed solution for injection containing 2, 3 or 5 vials containing 20 mg or 40 mg piroxicam. The administration of this drugis orally or intramuscularlyrespectively and the dosage as a referential may be as follows:
- Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis: One 20 mg capsule daily.
- Acute musculoskeletal conditions: Start with an initial dose of 40 mg and then adjust the dose to 20 mg per day.
- Acute gout: A daily dose of 40 mg for as long as the doctor indicates.
- Post-operative and post-traumatic pain and inflammation: Start with a dose of 20 mg to 40 mg per day and then adjust the dose to 20 mg every 24 hours.
- Dysmenorrhea: Therapy is started at 40 mg per day and then adjusted to 20 mg until symptoms resolve.
Note: The injectable presentation should be used in the initial intervention of acute conditions or chronic exacerbations at the discretion of the treating physician.
Fapicam Side Effects
Treatment with facicam® can cause some of the following adverse effects in certain patients :
- Possible allergic reactions due to contact with any of the chemical components of the formula.
- Stomatitis, anorexia, nausea, constipation .
- Abdominal discomfort, flatulence, diarrhea , gastrointestinal bleeding, edema.
- Conditions in the central nervous system such as dizziness, headache , drowsiness, insomnia and depression .
- Nervousness, hallucinations , Sleepabnormalities,and vertigo.
- Jaundice , hepatitis, palpitations, and dyspnea.
- Nephrotic syndrome and kidney failure in the elderly and diabetics .
Important: Stop using this medicine and Notify your doctor if any of these symptoms or another not mentioned in the list appear during treatment with this drug.
Facicam contraindications and warnings
The use of facicam® is contraindicated in the following cases:
- Patient hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula.
- Patients with active peptic ulcer .
- People with severe high blood pressure.
- Children under 12 years
- During the pregnancy period.
- During the Breastfeeding
You should know: Provide all the information related to your health history to your doctor, before starting treatment with this drug.
Avoid if you have:
- History of hypersensitivity to piroxicam.
- History of asthma, rhinitis or urticaria due to the administration of aspirin .
- Blood dyscrasias, heart, kidney and liver failure.
Warnings:
- Pharmaceutical products such as facicam® must be administered with a prescription or prescription.
- Follow your doctor’s directions while using this medication.
- Do not exceed recommended dose.
- Avoid administering to the elderly, due to an increased risk of gastrointestinal complications.
- Notify your doctor if you are being medicated with other drugs for other pathologies.
- Keep this product out of the reach of children.
