What is exalver?
Exalver® is the registered trademark of a pharmaceutically-manufactured combined synthetic medication , which has the action of three active ingredients that are paracetamol , dextromethorphan (1) and phenylephrine . In another version, it contains guaifenesin (2) , chemical compounds that together belong to the line of anti-flu drugs with an effect on respiratory diseases in the human body.

What is the exalver used for?
- Thanks to the combination of its active principles, exalver® exerts an antipyretic, analgesic, antihistamine and antitussive action to relieve diseases that mainly affect the respiratory system.
- It is used to treat:
- Cough and nasal or sinus congestion, associated with discomfort from the common cold and flu.
- Phlegm (mucus) and bronchial secretions.
- Seasonal allergy symptoms, especially the pediatric version, such as sneezing, stuffy nose, coughing, and runny nose.
- Acute rhinitis, allergic rhinitis, runny nose , hay fever and other allergies of the upper respiratory tract.
Dosage and routes of administration of exalver
Presentations of exalver® are in tablets containing 500 mg paracetamol, 5 mg phenylephrine, 15 mg dextromethorphan and in syrup containing 0.25 g phenylephrine, 0.5 g dextromethorphan and 5 mg guaifenesin. The administration of this medicine in both presentations is oral and the dosage as a reference can be the following:
- Adults: 2 tablets every 6 hours.
- Children from 6 to 12 years of age: 2 ml of syrup every 4 hours.
- Children over 6 years of age: 4 ml of syrup every 4 hours.
Exalver Side Effects
Therapeutic treatment with exalver® may cause some of the following adverse effects in a certain population of patients :
- Possible manifestation of allergic reactions due to patient contact with any of the components of the formula.
- Nausea, vomiting , dry mouth and gastric irritation.
- Drowsiness, excitement and mental confusion.
- Pancytopenia, agranulocytosis and thrombocytopenia.
- Severe arterial hypertension, headache and reflex bradycardia.
Important: If during treatment with this drug any of these symptoms or another not described appear, please stop using it and notify your doctor .
Exalver contraindications and warnings
The use of exalver® is contraindicated in any of the following cases:
- Patient hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula.
- People suffering from glaucoma and kidney disease.
- During the period of pregnancy or breastfeeding .
- Patients with gastritis and asthma.
You should know: Before starting treatment with this medication, the patient must provide all the information about their health history to their doctor.
Avoid if you have:
- History of hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula.
- Arterial hypertension, prostatic hypertrophy and active gastric ulcer .
- Medication for other pathologies.
Warnings:
- Pharmaceutical products such as exalver®, must be administered with prescription or medical prescription.
- Follow your doctor’s instructions during treatment with this drug.
- Do not alter the recommended dosage.
- It must be taken into account that it should not be administered to patients who are under treatment with antihypertensive agents or monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors.
- Keep this product out of the reach of children.
