What is dropropizine?

Dropropizineis a synthetic drug classified as an active ingredientby medical science, which belongs to the line of drugs with antitussive effect, against cough of any etiologywithout affecting thecentral nervous system. (1)

What is dropropizine for?

• Dropropizine acts as a peripheral sedative with antitussive action, which actsby inhibitingthe cough reflex through its action on peripheral receptors, in patients suffering fromdiseases of the respiratory systemthat showcough as a symptom, attributable to any cause. (2)
• It is used to treat:
  • Cough of any etiology even if bronchospasm and respiratory failure are present; pharyngitis, laryngitis, acute or chronic tracheitis.
  • Irritative cough.

Dosage and routes of administration of dropropizine

Dropropizine is sold in theform of a syrup, with a concentration of dropropizine 300 mg in a bottle of 120 ml. Theroute of administration is oraland the dose for informational purposes may be as follows:

• Children 2 to 5 years of age: 2.5 ml three times a day.
• Children from 6 to 12 years of age: 5 ml three times a day.
• Children over 12 years of age and adults: 10 ml every 8 hours.

Contraindications and warnings of dropropizine

• During lactation .
