Dialgin is a synthetic medicinewhose active ingredients are diiodohydroxyquinoline, furazolidone, homatropin®andactivated charcoal, with antidiarrheal, bactericidal, amebicidal and antispasmodic effect. What is dialgin for?
- Dialgin® is a pharmaceutical productaimed at treatingdigestive diseases and infections, caused through bacteria, germs and microorganisms that alter the balance in the functioning of the intestines.
- It is used to treat:
- Cysts of intestinal amebiasis, salmonella, shigella proteus, among others. (2)
- Giardiasis,helicobacter pylori. (3)
- E coli ( Escherichia coli ).
- Typhoid and paratyphoid fever.
- Diarrhea.
Dosage and routes of administration of dialgin
Dialgin® comesas a box of20 tablets containing 200 mg diiodohydroxyquinoline, 50 mg furazolidone and 2 mg homatropine and suspensionwith 1.25 g diiodohydroxyquinoline, 0.40 mg furazolidone and 0.02 mg homatropine per 100 ml in a 120 ml container. The administration of this drug isoraland is usually dosed as follows:
- Tablets: Adults, one tablet every 6 hours.
- Suspension: Adults, 30 ml 4 times a day. Children from 6 to 12 years: 15 ml 4 times a day.
Important: In both cases treatment with dialgin®should not exceed 5 continuous days.
Dilagin Side Effects
Treatment with dialgin® can generate certain adverse effects in some patients, which we mention below:
- Possible allergic reactions due to contact with any component of dialgin®.
- Diarrhea and abdominal pain .
- Nausea, vomiting and headaches.
- Dark coloration of the urine.
- Anemia.
- Problems with the thyroid gland
You should know: If the presence of any of the previously mentioned side effects arises, it is advisable to stop treatment with this drug and consult your doctor.
Dialgin contraindications and warnings
This medicine is contraindicated in the following cases:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the drug components.
- If the patient is prone to developing anemia.
- If you have liver failure.
- If you suspect pregnancy or are Breastfeeding
- In patients with ocular disorders.

Avoid if you have:
- Iodine hypersensitivity.
- If you have thyroid gland problems.
- Intestinal obstruction.
- Ulcerative colitis.

Warnings:
- Some data indicate that homatropine is contraindicated in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma and pyloric stenosis, so there should be sufficient medical surveillance.
- This medication must be administered with a prescription.
- It is recommended not to use in children under 6 years of age.
- Do not take during alcohol consumption.
- Do not administer with antihistamines, anticonvulsants or sedatives, as it enhances their effect.
- Keep this drug out of the reach of children.
