What is ciprofloxacin for?
- Thanks to its mechanism of action, ciprofloxacinis a drug that inhibits the enzyme DNA gyrase, an essential bacterial enzyme involved in the transcription, duplication and repair of bacterial DNA. This actionprevents the reproduction of these microorganisms, eliminating the infections caused and their symptoms.
- It is used to treat:

- Genitourinary tract infections, gonococcal urethritis, and prostatitis.

- Chronic suppurative otitis media.

Dosage and routes of administration of ciprofloxacin
Ciprofloxacin comes as a laboratory manufacturer in tabletscontaining ciprofloxacin hydrochloride monohydrate equivalent to 250 mg and 500 mg ciprofloxacin. The administrationis oraland the dosage as a referential may be as follows:
- Adults: Osteoarticular infections, pneumonia, skin and soft tissue infection 500 to 750 mg twice a day. Bacterial diarrhea, 500 mg every 12 hours. Endocervical and urethral gonorrhea, 250 mg as a single dose. Urinary tract infections 250 to 500 mg every 12 hours.

Ciprofloxacin Side Effects
Clinical studies indicate that treatment with ciprofloxacin may cause any of the following adverse effects in a certain patient population:
- Possible allergic reactions due to patient contact with any component of the formula.
- Nausea, vomiting , diarrhea and abdominal pain .
- Dyspepsia and pseudomembranous colitis .
- Headache , dizziness and restlessness.
- Drowsiness, insomnia and visual disturbances.
- Central nervous system disorders such as delirium, Hallucinations , depression , and seizures.
- syndrome
- Eosinophilia, leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia.
- Risk of arthropathy.
Important: If any of these symptoms or other symptoms not described appear during treatment with ciprofloxacin, please discontinue use and consult your doctor .
Contraindications and warnings of ciprofloxacin
The use of ciprofloxacin is contraindicated in the following cases:
- Patient hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula.
- Patients with myasthenia gravis.
- Patients under 18 years of age.
- Diagnosis of heart valve insufficiency.
- During pregnancy or breastfeeding .
You should know: Before starting treatment with this antibiotic, the patient must provide all the information related to their health history to their doctor.
Avoid it if you have:
- History of hypersensitivity to the chemical components of ciprofloxacin.
- Medication with tizanidine or antibacterial medicines containing fluoroquinolones or quinolones.
- History of tendon problems, during previous antibiotic treatment.
- In patients with renal insufficiency, the dose should be adjusted.
- Family history of QT interval prolongation.
- Family history of aortic aneurysm, aortic dissection, or congenital heart valve disease.
Warnings:
- Pharmaceutical products such as ciprofloxacin must be administered with a prescription or prescription.

- Do not alter the dose indicated by your doctor.
