What is chloropyramine?
Chloropyramine is a synthetic compound, which belongs to the line of antihistamine drugs and is considered an active principle by medicine, which relieves the symptoms of allergic reactions caused by food, medicines and other elements. (1)
What is chloropyramine used for?
- Chloropyramine is a type 1 (H1) histamine blocker, responsible for allergic reactions of various origins, temporarily relieving discomfort and improving the quality of life of patients.
- It is used to treat:
- Allergic reactions caused by food such as allergic conjunctivitis , allergic dermatitis , allergic rhinitis and hay fever . (two)
- Drug allergies.
- Allergic reactions due to insect stings and/or bites on the skin.
- Bronchial asthma.
Dosage and routes of administration of chloropyramine
The presentation of chloropyramine is in a box of 25 tablets, with 25 mg of chloropyramine and an injectable solution of 2 ml/20 mg of chloropyramine. Tablets are administered orally and the injectable solution is intramuscular. The dosage can be as follows, but under medical recommendation.
- Adults: 1 tablet every 6 or 8 hours at the discretion of the treating physician.
- Children from 5 to 10 years: 1 or 2 tablets a day according to medical recommendation.
- Children over 10 years: 2 or 3 tablets a day as indicated by the doctor.
- Injectable solution: An intramuscular injection can be administered once a day.

- Claricort® is an antihistamine medication, in whose composition is the combination of loratadine and betamethasone.

Agrifen®
- Agrifen® is an antihistamine medication, which contains paracetamol , caffeine, phenylephrine and chlorphenamine .
- It is used to treat the annoying symptoms of runny nose, headache and fever.

Chloropyramine Side Effects
The use of chloropyramine may cause in certain patients some of the following adverse reactions :
- Possible allergic reactions due to contact with any component of the formula.
- Drowsiness, dizziness and agitation.
- Dry mouth and gastrointestinal pain.
- Hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia and aplastic anemia.
Important: If any of the symptoms described above or any other not included in the list appear, discontinue use and notify your doctor.
Contraindications and warnings of chloropyramine
Chloropyramine is contraindicated in the following cases:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the formula’s components.
- In patients with arterial hypertension or cardiac arrhythmia.
- In people with glaucoma.
- In patients with monoamine oxidase inhibitor medication.
- During pregnancy or lactation .

Avoid if you have:
- Than drive vehicles or precision machinery.
- Medication with central nervous system depressant drugs .
Warnings:
