What is bactropin?

Bactropin®is a synthetic compound drug, which is made with two active ingredients, trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole(1), two chemicals that belong to thebroad-spectrum antibiotic line.

What is bactropin for?

  • Bactropin® is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, which is used totreat infections caused byfungibacteria or yeast, preventing their development and reproduction.
  • It is used to treat:
    • Conjunctivitis, blepharitis and neonatal sepsis.
    • Septicemia and peritonitis.
    • Acute or chronic cystitis, pyelocystitis, pyelonephritis andgonococcal urethritis.
    • Boils, abscesses and infected wounds.
    • Rhinitissinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, acute exacerbation ofbronchitisand pneumonia.
    • Typhoid fever, gastroenteritis and dysentery.
    • Otitis media.
    • Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae infection.

Dosage and routes of administration of bactropin

trimethoprim. It also comes in

  • Children from 2 to 5 years of age: 1/2 tablet of 800/400 mg every 12 hours.
  • Children from 6 to 11 years of age: 1 tablet of 800/400 mg or 1/2 tablet of 160/800 mg every 12 hours.
  • Children 12 years of age and older and adults: 2 tablets of 800/400 mg or 1 tablet of 160/800 mg every 2 hours.

Bactropin Side Effects

Treatment with bactropin® can cause, in certain patients, some of the following side effects: in certain patients:

  • Possible allergic reactions due to contact with any component of the formula.
  • It can cause dizziness and headache.
  • Fever , muscle and joint pain.
  • Diarrhea , nausea, and loss of appetite.
  • Jaundice.
  • syndrome
  • Decreased kidney function.
  • It can inhibit enzymes that help make Folic acid production .

Important: If any of these symptoms appear during treatment with bactropin®, discontinue use and consult your doctor.

Contraindications and warnings of bactropin

Treatment with bactropin® is contraindicated in the following cases:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of its components.
  • Patients with megaloblastic anemia .
  • People with severe disorders of the liver parenchyma (liver diseases).

You should know: Provide all the information to your doctor about your medical history , since this medicine is of delicate use.

Avoid if you have:

  • Severe kidney failure.
  • Blood dyscrasia (abnormalities in blood components).

Warnings:

  • Antibiotic medications, such as bactropin®, should be kept out of the reach of children.
  • Do not administer this drug without prescription or prescription.
  • Do not exceed the duration or the dose indicated by your doctor.
  • Avoid self-medication and follow the therapeutic indications to avoid any health risk in the patient.
