What is the bactiver?

Bactiver®is a synthetic medicinecomposed of two active ingredients, which are sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim, drugs that have antibacterial properties against certain pathologies. It should be noted that this drug is developed byMaver Laboratories(1)

What is the bactiver for?

  • The bactiver® allows to inhibit the enzymatic activity of a metabolic pathway, blocking the production ofnucleic acids essential for a large number of bacteria, preventing the development and reproduction of bacteria and certain fungi.

Dosage and routes of administration of bactiver

Bactiver® is an antibiotic thatcomes as 400 mg/80 mg or 800 mg/160 mg sulfamethoxazole andtrimethoprim tablets or tablets. Italso comes in suspension of60, 100 and 120 mL. The dosage described below is for informational purposes:

  • Children up to 5 months old: Administer2.5 ml of suspension, every 12 hours orally.
  • Children 6 months to 2 years: Administer5 ml of suspension, every 12 hours.
  • Children from 2 years to 5 years: Administer5 to 10 ml of suspension, twice a day.
  • Children from 6 years to 12 years old: Administer10 ml of suspension, twice a day.
  • Children over 12 years old and adults: Administer1 or two tablets daily at the discretion of the attending physician orally.

side effects of bactiver

The bactiver® can produce some of the following adverse effects in certain patients :

  • Allergic reactions due to contact with the components of bactiver®.
  • Skin rash and itching.
  • Headache.
  • In the digestive system nausea, diarrhea and Vomiting may occur .
  • Esophagitis and alteration of blood cells.
  • Skin hypersensitivity and anaemia(Aplastic and Haemolytic).
  • May cause hemolytic anemia in neonates with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.
  • Possible onset of Stevens-Johnson syndrome .

Important: In case of presenting any of the effects mentioned above, it is recommended to stop using bactiver® and consult your doctor.

Contraindications and warnings of bactiver

The bactiver® is contraindicated in the following circumstances:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the drug.
  • If there is suspicion of pregnancy or if you are breastfeeding.
  • It should not be mixed with diabetes medications.
  • Severe liver parenchyma disorders.

To highlight: It is recommended to give information to the treating physician about the patient’s health history, before starting treatment with bactiver®.

Avoid if you have:

  • Deficiencies
  • Kidney failure and liver failure.
  • Megaloblastic anemia.

Warnings:

  • It is recommended to consume bactiver® accompanied by some food or drink, to prevent gastrointestinal disorders from occurring.
  • Avoid mixing with alcohol.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Avoid self-medication.
  • This medication must be indicated with a prescription.
