What is avapena?

Avapena® is asynthetic drugwhose active ingredient is chloropyramine hydrochloride, a chemical compound found in the line ofdrugs with antihistamine effect H1(1), which stimulates the immune system response by blocking histamine receptors.

What is avapena for?

  • Avapena®is a drug that belongs to the group of pharmacological antagonistswith antihistamine properties, used to reduce and eradicate the symptoms of some allergic manifestations, improving the health and quality of life of patients.
  • It is used to treat:
    • Allergic conjunctivitis.
    • Allergic rhinitis and hayfever(3)
    • Skin allergies, pruritus, edema, eczema and hives.
    • In case of food or drug allergies.
    • It is used as a preventive measure in case of reactions caused by the transfusion of contrast media.
    • Insect bites and stings

Dosage and routes of administration of avapena

The presentation of avapena® is in boxes of 20 tablets or tablets of 25 mg and in injectable solution of 20 mgin boxes with 5 ampoules. The route of administration is oral or intravenous depending on the method of administration recommended by the doctor. In general, the dosage is usually as follows:

  • Tablets: Adults 1 tablet 2 or 3 times a day, as recommended by doctor. Children 5 to 10 years 2 tablets daily as directed by the attending physician andchildren10 to 17 years 2 to 3 tablets daily on doctor’s recommendation.
  • Injection: 1 ampoule every 24 hours by slow intravenous or intramuscular route.

Note: This medicine is well absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, producing effects 15 to 30 minutes after taking.

Avapena Side Effects

During the use of avapena®, certain Adverse effects may occur in some patients, which we mention below:

  • Some allergic reactions.
  • Gastrointestinal upset, dizziness and vomiting .
  • dry mouth
  • Drowsiness.

Important: If any of the symptoms mentioned above appear during treatment with avapena®, it is recommended to discontinue use and consult a doctor.

Avapena Contraindications and Warnings

Avapena® is contraindicated in the following circumstances:

  • Hypersensitivity to contact with any component of the drug.
  • Patients with cardiac arrhythmia.
  • In patients with glaucoma.
  • During pregnancy or while lactating .

You should know: It is important to provide your treating physician with information about your health history before starting treatment with avapena®.

Avoid if you have:

  • Medication with drugs for the central nervous system .
  • Arterial hypertension.
  • Medication with monoamine oxidase inhibitors such as isocarboxazid, phenelzine, tranylcypromine.
  • If you are taking tricyclic antidepressant drugs.

Warnings:

  • It should not be administered to children under 5 years of age.
  • Avoid driving vehicles and machinery while taking avapena®.
  • This medication must be administered with a prescription.
  • Keep out of the reach of children.
  • Avoid self-medication with this class of drugs.
