What is allegra?

Allegra® is a chemical compound that belongs to the line of drugs with an antihistamine effect , since it uses fexofenadine hydrochloride as an active ingredient , a non-sedating third-generation H1 antihistamine.

What is allegra used for?

  • Allegra®, thanks to its mechanism of action, blocks the production of histamine , a substance that triggers annoying symptoms caused by allergic processes, making it a medicine used to relieve discomfort caused by allergic reactions in the body.
  • It is used to treat:
    • Symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis such as dry throat, irritated eyes with watery eyes, runny nose, itchy nose and palate, sneezing. (two)
    • Chronic idiopathic urticaria in adults and children from 6 years of age. (3)

Dosage and routes of administration of allegra

Allegra® can be sold in concentrations of fexofenadine hydrochloride with 120 mg, 180 mg and 30 mg in boxes of 10 to 30 tablets and in suspension in bottles with 60 ml, 150 ml and 300 ml. The route of administration in both cases is oral and the dosage as a guideline is as follows:

  • Tablets: For allergic rhinitis and chronic idiopathic urticaria in pediatric patients 6 to 11 years of age, one 30-mg tablet twice daily. Adults and children over 12 years of age, one 120 mg or 180 mg tablet as recommended by a doctor once a day; in case of chronic idiopathic urticaria, one 180 mg tablet every 24 hours is recommended.
  • Suspension : Seasonal allergic rhinitis in patients 2 to 11 years of age, 5 ml (30 mg) twice daily. Chronic idiopathic urticaria in children 6 months of age through 2 years of age, 2.5 mL (15 mg) twice daily and in children 2 years of age through 11 years of age, 5 mL (30 mg) twice daily day.

The therapeutic use of allegra® can cause in certain patients , some of the following adverse effects:

  • Possible appearance of allergic reactions due to contact with any of the components of the formula.
  • Fatigue and insomnia .
  • Nervousness and sleep disorders .
  • Erythema, urticaria and itching.

Important: Please stop use and consult your doctor, if you experience any of these symptoms or other symptoms not included in the list, during treatment with allegra®.

Contraindications and warnings of allegra

The use of allegra® is contraindicated in the following circumstances:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula.
  • The use of tablets in children under 6 years of age.
  • During the pregnancy period.
  • During breastfeeding .
  • In children under 2 years of age in cases of allergic rhinitis.
  • In children under 6 months of age in cases of chronic idiopathic urticaria.

You should know: Provide all information about your health history to your doctor, before starting treatment with allegra®.

Avoid if you have:

  • History of hypersensitivity to fexofenadine hydrochloride or any component of the formula.

Warnings:

  • Pharmaceutical products such as allegra® must be administered with a prescription or prescription.

  • Keep this product out of the reach of children.
  • Store this medication in a cool, dry place.
