What is adimod?

Adimod® is a synthetically manufactured drug, whose active principle is pidotimod (1) , a chemical substance that has an action on the immune system, causing a defensive response against bacterial infections in respiratory diseases . It is important to mention that this medication is manufactured by Armstrong Laboratories . (two)

What is adimod used for?

  • Adimod® is recommended to alleviate the symptoms of conditions due to secondary and primary immunodeficiency problems, with alterations in the maturation of T lymphocytes, in respiratory system infections caused by gram -positive and negative bacteria. (3)
  • It is used to treat:
    • Cold and flu.
    • Sinusitis.
    • Pneumonia. (4)
    • Preventive protection against Covid 19. (5)

Dosage and routes of administration of adimod

Adimod® can be administered according to the following guidelines two hours after food:

  • 400 mg tablet : Initial dose for adults and the elderly, of 2 tablets of 400 mg twice a day and with medical recommendation.
  • Bottles of 400 and 800 mg 7 ml solution : Adults in the acute phase, 800 mg bottle, twice a day. Elderly and children in acute phase 400 mg bottle, twice a day.

To highlight: The dose and route of administration will always depend on the evaluation of a doctor, therefore avoid self-medication.

Adimod Side Effects

Side effects of adimod® can occur in some patients, which we mention below:

  • Diarrhea .
  • Poor coordination in movements (ataxia).
  • Sedation in the nervous system .
  • Dyspnea (a disorder that makes breathing difficult).
  • Cyanosis (a state of blue coloration in the skin).

Important: If you have any of the aforementioned reactions, it is recommended to discontinue the use of the medication and consult with the treating physician.

Adimod Contraindications and Warnings

Adimod® is contraindicated in the following circumstances:

  • Patients hypersensitive to pidotimod.
  • People who consume alcohol.
  • Pregnant and lactating women.

Avoid if you have:

  • Medication with immunosuppressive drugs.
  • Thymostimulin medication.
  • Sensitivity to pidothymod.

Warnings:

  • Pidotimod has little scientific study, so you should be on the lookout for any side reactions.
  • Do not use adimod® without prior medical advice.
  • Do not take adimod® during meals, as it loses up to 50% of its effectiveness.
  • There are no data on toxicity, so overdose should be avoided.
